Do You Have to Recruit Brand Ambassadors, or Will They Come to You?
December 13, 2014
Brand ambassadors are the greatest ways to promote your company, because they're the ones who will gladly spread the word about you without asking for a cent. Then again, there might be a perception that you still have to recruit a brand ambassador in order for them to be willing to promote you on social media and in the offline world. This is a misconception, because recruiting brand ambassadors contradicts how the process works.
A real brand ambassador is willing to go out and promote you willingly without having to be coaxed. But this doesn't mean you shouldn't go to them and tell them how to conduct their promotion. You may also want to focus on certain ambassadors that could benefit you the most based on their age demographic or knowledge of your industry.
Training the Best Ambassador Volunteers
Being a good brand ambassador also means doing it in a smart way. You could have some ambassadors who go blindly into promoting you without knowing how to do it effectively, which is potentially harmful. It might be a challenge going after those people and telling them to stop what they're doing or to change their tactics. Regardless, you shouldn't be afraid to speak up since it's your company they're representing.
If you have to group certain ambassadors into effective groups, how should it work so you know they'll have the best reach?
The first thing you should do is interview the best ones so you can both be on the same page regarding what they're doing. Before you interview them, pick ones from the age demographic you most want to connect to. You might be surprised to see some older brand ambassadors trumpeting your company out there when your products are usually associated with younger. It could also be vice versa, depending on the type of product you're selling.
While the above cases might be rare, choosing ones that fit the right age bracket will be the most helpful, unless the older and younger ones can prove they effectively connect with the age groups you're targeting. Generally, someone of the same age will be able to communicate better and be on the same wavelength.
After you have your superstar ambassadors sorted, making sure they understand everything about your company and products will help arm them with the best marketing tools. The last thing you want is a brand ambassador going out and telling your demographic false information because the ambassador didn't take time to do more research.
